The team travelled to Auckland to compete in this years’ season of INTO ORBIT held at Somerville Intermediate on Saturday 1st December. It was a very successful competition with team taking out second prize overall and they were also invited to compete in an international round next year.

FIRST LEGO League is judged over several categories, the Robot Game, research project, robot design and Core Values. Our team had a strong project which explored ways of growing carrots and other root vegetables in a space station environment where there is no gravity and convective air currents to deal with.

In the robot game we managed a comfortable 10th place with a score of 90 points, you can check the video below of the best round. Team Cobot managed the wining 131 point round, well done. All round this season was a tougher lower scoring game so it was hard to top our previous season scores. We did set ourselves a tough challenge by using a dog gear meshing style for the first time.

It was great to see our friends from Dunedin North Intermediate competing in Auckland again.

Many thanks to We Think for plan printing our project board sheets and Promo Clothing for printing our awesome team t-shirts.
