Our very first event was held on Saturday 11th August 2018 at Kip McGrath in Queenstown. We had four robots competing, three from the students at Remarkables Park Primary School Side Club and one from Queenstown Robostomers members Monique and Tom. The competition was based on FISRT LEGO League’s HYDRODYNAMICS robot game from the 2017/2018 competition season.
This competition series acknowledges the work and dedication of Martin Wightman, who was instrumental in setting up the Robostormers and sadly passed away last year. His sister Emma Wilson proudly unveiled the perpetual trophy and his original hoody that has been beautifully framed both of which will remain on display at Kip McGrath.
First Place was taken by team Remarkables Rookies with an impressive 70 points on their first round. Runner-up were the Pixelators with a score or 45 points.
Many thanks to Kip McGrath for letting us use the space, EB Games for providing spot prizes, Simon and Noah for refereeing, Maria from RPS for indulging us and Drew for coaching a formidable winning team.
Any school interested in competing for the Martin Wightman Cup should get in touch with Paula via our club email.
