The team travelled to Auckland to compete in the second competition for 2017, this time Hydrodynamics held at AGC Strathallan on Saturday 9th December. This round only had a short lead up training period having just competed in Animal Allies in September.

The team managed a strong score of 110 points for the robot game aiming to have the robot complete at least two tasks per mission and doing it more consistently than in previous seasons.

The highlight for the team was the work we did on our research project. We decided to look into the problem that the invasive ‘Lake Snot’ or Lindavia Intermedia was having in Lakes Wanaka and Wakatipu. The team met with the local QLDC Engineers and had a field trip to a local water intake, treatment and storage facility to learn how the system worked and solve what measure could be taken to protect the infrastructure from Lake Snot blockages. We also looked at the effect it was having on recreational fishing and domestic water filters.

The team were well rewarded for the effort by winning the Research Award at the competition.
